General Information

The Philippines consist of three main island groups, the Luzon and it's neighbours, the Visayas and Mindanao, including the Sulus. The archipelago is subject to earthquakes and typhoons. It has a monsoon climate and over 40% of the country is covered by rain forest. Fishing is important but small farms dominate the economy, producing rice and copra for domestic consumption and other coconut and sugar products for export. Forestry is becoming an impostant industry but main exports are textiles, fruit and electronic products. Fishing is an important local industry.
